Building an Operating Cadence in the First 90 Days
By Craig Landman
A weekly operating rhythm surfaces reality faster than a polished plan ever will.
New leaders often spend their first weeks building the perfect plan. The better first move is to build a cadence: a weekly operating rhythm with the right people in the room, the right few metrics, and a bias toward decision over debate.
A cadence works faster than a plan because it starts producing information immediately. You learn what is actually happening - where decisions get stuck, which numbers people argue about, who owns what in practice rather than on the org chart.
Use that early evidence to refine the plan. An operating cadence helps test assumptions while the leadership team develops its direction.
In the first ninety days, establish an operating rhythm alongside the strategic plan. Let each improve the other as the evidence becomes clearer.
