Mews · 2017 - 2020

Two new continents in 18 months

As COO for the Americas and APAC and the CEO's operating partner, I built the entities, leadership teams, and operating model that took Mews into the United States and Australia, owning a $148M P&L through hypergrowth.

18 mo

to scale US and Australia

01

The context

Mews is a hospitality operating system that combines property management with embedded payments. During my tenure the platform scaled past 1,000 properties and 130,000 beds across 47 countries, and the company raised a $33M Series B led by Battery Ventures in 2019. It has since surpassed $100M in ARR and 12,500 customers, and in 2026 raised a $300M Series D at a $2.5B valuation.

I joined as the CEO's strategic and operational partner for global expansion, inside a sponsor-backed business moving through a capital-raising and hypergrowth cycle. The mandate was to take a European success story into two very different new continents, fast, without breaking what made it work.

In hypergrowth, the operating model is the product nobody sees. If it does not scale, nothing else does.

02

The challenge

Establish legal entities, compliance frameworks, and physical hubs in two new markets at the same time.

Meet PCI requirements and local payment-infrastructure regulations in each market, since payments were core to the product.

Hire a senior leadership team in markets where the company had no network.

Keep product, implementation, and field operations moving at the same speed as rapid release cycles.

Preserve culture and service quality across multiple continents and time zones.

03

My role

I owned the $148M P&L for the Americas and APAC and led a globally distributed organization of 12 direct executive reports and more than 160 indirect staff. I architected the organizational infrastructure, cross-functional operating models, and leadership teams for both markets.

04

How I approached it

Establish the footprint

I directed market entry into the US and Australia: legal entities, compliance frameworks, and physical operational hubs, all delivered ahead of schedule.

Hire the leaders first

I led executive hiring and succession planning across the Americas and APAC, building localized talent pipelines that cut time-to-hire for critical regional leadership by 52%.

Build an operating system that repeats

I designed scalable, repeatable operational frameworks and anchored them in standardized KPIs, OKRs, and transparent cross-border communication, creating one culture of purpose and accountability across continents.

Make payments and compliance boring

I led the operational strategy for regional fintech deployment, keeping us rigorously aligned with PCI requirements, international standards, and localized payment-infrastructure regulation.

Keep product and the field in lockstep

I partnered closely with the Chief Product and Chief Technology Officers to match field capacity to platform innovation, and synchronized delivery and implementation teams with release cycles so enterprise clients received new fintech and PMS features smoothly.

Automate and source smartly

I deployed Zapier-based automation to connect operational, finance, and product systems across the new entities, and owned vendor selection and governance for outsourced and nearshore operational-support functions.

05

What changed

Two continents in 18 months

US and Australian operations established ahead of schedule.

Triple-digit growth

Delivered on a $148M P&L while sustaining profitability through aggressive scaling.

2x regional market share

Supported by repeatable operating frameworks that held service quality.

52% faster leadership hiring

Localized talent pipelines for critical regional roles.

06

What I carry forward

Hire the leaders before you need the headcount.

The first ten leaders in a new market determine the next hundred hires.

Standardize the rhythm, localize the play.

Common KPIs and cadence let local teams adapt tactics without losing alignment.

Compliance is a growth enabler.

In payments, trust is the product. Getting it right early made everything after it faster.
